A web Content Management System (CMS) is an application which manages content for a website. It consists of a dynamic webpage(s), a database and various components which handles queries and to ensure that the CMS runs smoothly. All data is stored in the database. When the website is visited, data is pulled from the database and is rendered as information on the webpage. The CMS has two (2) gateways: the front end which a user sees when visiting the webpage and a back end which is used to update and maintain the site.

What benefit is a CMS application to my business?

Consider this situation: Toni owns a small flower shop. She has a website where she advertises specials for various occasions throughout the year; Valentines day, Mothers day, secretaries week etc. Obviously the prices change as some flowers are seasonal and the types of specials offered would vary. Simply put, there isn't an easier way to maintain a website.
